Eren Vale
“Old Man”
Joined the fight at fifteen. Once a girl who dreamed of dragons from the safety of a bunker bedroom, now the Blade who hunts them. She prefers short blades — and carries a decade of scars, and one promise she means to keep.
Fire does not forgive. Neither does ice.
The dragons came back organised. Cities fell first, then the surface itself. What's left of humanity lives underground, in bunkers ration by ration, sending Sweep teams out to scout, scan, and cut down whatever comes close enough to threaten what's left.
Some of those dragons breathe fire. Some breathe frost. All of them are still winning.
A diary. A soldier's daughter. A war that hadn't reached her yet.
Dragons are real! Can you believe it, diary? Dragons aren't just stories. They really exist. And apparently are really mean.
Eren, age 10 — diary, March 2015
They also breathe fire. Some of them, at least. The small ones are apparently frosty.

“A little,” [Dad] said. But that fear would keep him alert, and make sure he came back alive.
Eren, age 10 — diary, March 2015
Not with the dragons starting to become more organised. And deliberately targeting big cities.
Eren, age 12 — diary, November 2017
I want to be like him when I grow up.
Eren, age 12 — diary, November 2017
She got her wish.
Inside the bunkers, the war looks different. Not easier.
Winning would get you extra rations for the day. Losing could range from mild disappointment to ruthless mocking.

The whole point of those roles was to stay back and only interfere if absolutely necessary.
